Sweeney Todd...

Sweeney Todd - A movie that is a must see. If you're reading this post and you are familiar with the title then I can only add that this is one will be added to the long list of Johnny Depp's greats films. On December 21st you will witness another great performance by Depp, so be sure to have the babysitter lined up and head on over to your local theater and watch what will be one of best movies for 2007.

I have seen many films by Johnny Depp, I even remember watching him on the television show 21 Jump Street where he played a young officer by the name of Tom Hanson. The one scene I remember was when his girlfriend/love interest was shot in a convenience store where he was not able to save her from being shot by a robber. He spent most of his time doing many tasks that would take him about 3.2 seconds to do. His line that stood with me was when he said "I could of saved her in 3.2 seconds but I did nothing". Now another movie that he did that I enjoyed watching and I purchased was Sleepy Hollow. Here Johnny plays what we know today as CSIs. Ichabod Crane was his name and solving murders was his game. The scene which I think was the greatest one was when Crane investigated his first murder in the quiet town of Sleepy Hollow, where he actually breaks out his "tools" to do his research. The line that caught my attention was when he said "The Horseman then came back to collect the head".

If I had to pick which one stood out the most I would have to say Sleepy Hollow. Please visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site and view the trailer and see that this will be a movie to watch and own. If you happen to be a MySpace guru then stop on over and visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace today.

First Serving Female British MP Elected (1919)
Nancy Witcher Astor, or Viscountess Astor, was the second woman elected to the British Parliament's House of Commons and the first to actually serve. She was a Conservative member who concentrated on women's issues, temperance, and child welfare. Astor attracted a great deal of attention, much of it for her caustic and witty comments, and was reelected many times, serving until 1945. When she said to Winston Churchill, "If you were my husband, I'd put arsenic in your coffee," how did he respond? Find the answer and post a comment with your answer.

Today back in 1922...

1922 discoveryCarter Breaches Entrance to Tutankhamun's Tomb (1922)
When Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon entered the tomb of the Egyptian King Tutankhamun, they were the first people to do so in 3,000 years. The tomb was then the best preserved and most intact pharaonic tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings. In order to remove King Tut's jewelry and amulets, Carter's team dissected the mummy, severing the ancient king's arms, legs, and head in the process. Later, the deaths of several of Carter's team members invited speculation about what ancient curse?
There's always speculation that the deaths of those individuals were the cause of a curse. If you ask me I think it was all in their head and they found themselves being too cautious and any little thing that came up that would be considerd dangerous they probably saw as a sign of the curse. They probably had themselves so tight in security that something as simple as driving could throw them off.

Saturday Photo Hunt - Hot

The picture you see to the right is that of my niece Jasmine. This was taken a few years back but I can remember that day like it was yesterday. The temp was set to be in the mid 80s and the humidity was not that far behind. I was at my mom's house when all of a sudden Jasmine began crying and screaming very loud. We couldn't understand why because she was in the shade under a tree and for some reason she wanted to be in the sun light so we moved her and placed her on the deck. She began crying again this time it seemed to be louder then before. Well my sister began removing clothing from her and would you know it, Jasmine was too hot to have any clothes on. Believe it or not but she fell asleep right after her shorts were removed. I guess the next time an infant starts crying very loud quickly remove their clothes.

:)
Join in on the fun each and every Saturday!

Something worth adding...

If we can only add this piece to some of the games throughout the football season I'm sure Pepsi will do better on a sales point of view. There's nothing like some eye candy during the halftime show especially when it's those three. As a side note to this - I found it to be a little bit "exciting" seeing the three of them in hot looking gladiator outfits. You gotta love commercial producers and costume designers when they produce such commercials.

A day to remember...

JFKPresident John F. Kennedy Assassinated (1963)
The assassination of John F. Kennedy while he was riding in a presidential motorcade in Dallas was a seminal event in American history. Although two official investigations have concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald was the culprit, the assassination is still the subject of widespread speculation and has spawned a number of conspiracy theories. Who was the "Babushka Lady," and what was she doing at the time of the assassination?
Kennedy had chosen to visit Dallas for three main reasons: to help generate more Democratic Party presidential campaign fund contributions in advance of the November 1964 presidential election; to begin his quest for re-election; and, because the Kennedy-Johnson ticket had barely won Texas (and had lost Dallas) in 1960, to mend political fences among several leading Texas Democratic Party members who appeared to be fighting politically amongst themselves. The basic decision on the November trip to Texas was made at a meeting of President Kennedy, Vice President Johnson and Texas Governor John Connally on June 5, 1963. The trip also included a first stop in Houston for a 3,200-person dinner for senior Congressman Albert Thomas, who was considering not seeking re-election. On September 26, 1963, the two daily Dallas newspapers confirmed plans of the November visit. *RIP Mr. John F Kennedy*

A different look at it...

When I watched this video I began to wonder how many restaurants here in Toledo throw away good food in order to make room for the next delivery? What Ruthy Woodring is and has been doing for quite some time now can only be seen as wonderful, not only is she helping those who aren't able gather their own food but she's doing her part to make sure these items don't end up in some landfill. I want to send a special thank you to her and her friends who take the time to make sure that food like this isn't wasted. Actually, if our city officials can talk to local businesses about their daily habit we might be able to decrease the hunger numbers by about 20 to 25 percent. When my wife and I participated in the annual Tent City in downtown Toledo I had the chance to sit down and talk to a gentleman that saw the annual event very uplifting and helpful to those who feel there is no hope for them. If you're a restaurant owner or a worker and you're reading this please take the added time to keep that extra food that you normally throw out and contact your local organization that provides food to the homeless and see if they can distribute that food to people that very same night.
To get more information on Tent City and donations please call 419.349.4969 or email them at hap@taaeh.com

Another loss for the Niners...

SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- Marc Bulger was 21-of-32 passing for 155 yards and the game's only touchdown Sunday afternoon, as the St. Louis Rams beat San Francisco, 13-9. Torry Holt, who had seven receptions for 55 yards, caught the touchdown, as the Rams won their second game in a row after losing the first eight games of the season. Stephen Jackson ran 23 times for 92 yards, and Jeff Wilkins made two field goals in the victory. Trent Dilfer replaced quarterback Alex Smith, who is out with a sore shoulder, and went 20-for-42 for 231 yards. Joe Nedney was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts for the 49ers (2-8), who lost their eighth in a row.

Freeze It Away Today...

JoseThe young man you see to the right is my younger brother Jose. He lives in Puerto Rico and decided to use his year's vacation to come and see me. We haven't seen each other for about 7 years. Don't let his smile fool you because he has been suffering from knee and back injuries since he was 17 playing baseball for two different teams. His first injury was when a wild pitch struck him on his left knee which left him on crutches for about three months. He finds himself rubbing his knee from time to time especially when he is on his feet for a long period of time. His second injury kind of came right after his knee injury. He was making his way to the workplace when he slipped on a wet floor that wasn't properly surrounded with signage mentioning so. He tried to get his balance but ended up hitting his back on two metal shelves. Let's just say that he had a few choice words other then 'I'm Okay'. He has tried pretty much everything to relieve the pain but has not found that soothing product till this day. His way of taking care of the hurting muscles is to rub it down with warm water and a rag. I know for a fact that he will feel better when he tries the Freeze It Gel product. I can image the look on his face when he realizes that now he can actually go for a walk and not have to stop every so often to rest his knee or knowing the fact that he can help his friends work on cars and lift boxes without grimacing. Freeze It will definitely bring a smile to his face that would really have a true intent behind it. Notice in the photo how he doesn't really stand up straight but he kind a leans on something when posing. Freeze it relieves tightened muscles and aching joints to help you enjoy your day a little more.

Someone actually understands...

Mitt RomneyWASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said this week that if elected president he would punish states that provide illegal immigrants with tuition breaks or those that issue them driver's licenses.
I can't for the life of me understand how those states that offer the licenses and tuition breaks to illegal immigrants can actually think that what they're doing is okay. We as a nation have laws that were created to better this country, I can imagine the outrage of the immigrants who are taking the time to enter this country "Legally" when they watch the news and hear that illegals get rights from this country by simply breaking the law. That has to be the biggest disappointment ever to know that a country that is strong in diversity can't manage to keep themselves protected from border crossers. Most immigrants are coming here to leave the world they know of where border crossers come and disrupt the flow of life by either killing people for the wrong reason or for any reason. Here they are now entering what is known as the 'Liberty and Freedom Country' the legal way and they find themselves witnessing illegal border crossings which they have already seen before and they can only assume that this isn't going to end up good. I can't blame them for coming to that conclusion because the truth of the matter is slapping us right in the face. Let's not keep the blinders on and think that we're a okay - just remember 9-11-01. Watch the complete interview below and you decide what it is you want in a president.

Saturday Photo Hunt - I Love ______

Yesterday's theme is going to be a very easy one. I Love my wife Lisa Renee but she didn't want me to put a picture of her up on this site so I decided to express my second love and that is the love of photography. The image you see to the right is a local farm by the name of Mac Queens. When I saw these beautiful cobbed corn pieces you can clearly see the colors that take on a life of their own. I enjoy finding that special object and giving it the attention it deserves. Enjoy and have a great weekend.

Relaxing by the TV...

I have received a wonderful gift from VAT19 on Friday and the one item that I tried out that night was the 'Ambient Fire' DVD. I slipped it into my DVD player and after a few seconds I was surfing through the menu and seeing what they had to offer. I soon found myself making my own playlist. The Classical selection with the fire sounds is what my wife wanted to hear, so after a few buttons were pushed we began to experience the full feature of the DVD through our surround sound system. We are planning on using this on Christmas Eve when the family is here and enjoying a full dinner together. If you are interested in this video please visit the site and check out the other items they have online like the Fotofalls Desktop Photo Tree which I can see would be helpful for my sister's desk.

Saving that buck for presents...

The one thing I love the most is the fact that I can save a lot of money buying the same products that most grocery stores have at a higher price. The video link below has an inside look on how you can save hundreds of dollars each month. The one thing that I know that we don't do is buy product that is ready to go, for example - precooked meats, sliced cheese sold in quarter pieces, prepared mashed potatoes etc. Well I am kind of guilty on that last one, I love to buy the mashed potatoes already mashed for me so that I can cut some time during prep work for dinner. With the cut down on foods that are ready to go you will easily find yourself saving lots at month's end. This post is up so that in case my brother happens to be checking me online he might see this and think twice about buying that easy meal that takes seconds to prep.

Comfort by selection...

I want to start out by saying that if we were blessed with one of these beauties the long days at work and home will be easier to handle knowing that this wonderful creation of a bed is waiting for us to lay down and relax/sleep. A sleep number bed is something that everyone needs, I can't find anyone that can honestly tell me that their current mattress is the best they ever had and that they wouldn't change it for anything in the world. If there is such a person out there that is okay with their non-comfortable mattress it's probably because they dropped a lot of money for it so they have to get their monies worth before saying it wasn't what they expected. I am asking for those of you reading this to give them a try and for a limited time only you can receive a free bed set ensemble which would include the following 200 thread count fitted & flat sheets, pillows, and pillow cases. Not many stores offer that right from the start. If you aren't sure if this is a good deal then please take a few minutes and visit this page and see the difference when compared to Select Comfort. The cold days are just around the corner so that means that there will be some cuddle time coming up.

A merger worth the wait...

I just read and heard the announcement that Delta and United Airlines are in talks of merging with the American Airlines name staying and the corporate offices remaining in Chicago. I believe that with this merger the prices of tickets will be coming down in the near future. The prices before the holidays may not be tweaked enough to see a difference but I can safely say that they will run smoother and more efficient. With the praise of Southwest Airlines being a very well managed airline and the many kudos to the employees receive for treating their customers with respect and as a family member has other companies like the ones merging beefing up their measures and standards.

What's wrong with the media?

This morning a friend of mine brought to my attention something that is completely wrong and should be taken care of immediately. The following video links you see are two different point of views. One video you will see CNN conducting an interview with John Cena which lasts approximately 30 seconds. The other video is the same interview but it was recorded by WWE for their own purposes and it lasts for about 2 mintues and 38 seconds. When you watch the CNN version you will clearly hear Cena say that he may have used steroids but you can't prove it, while on the unedited version recorded by WWE you will hear Cena clearly say No. My question to CNN is this "What did you have to gain from this by editing his answer?"
I have talked about the steroid issue before when it was mentioned that Barry Bonds was potentially using. I simply stated that until proven dirty, he's still clean. This same comment goes for any other athlete out there, You are not guilty for improving your body in order to achieve that goal especially if you did it in a clean manner.
Here is a comment from WWE.
In a country in which the news media is highly suspect, and the quality of unbiased reporting has been thrown into the trash can, CNN has stooped to new depths. Notwithstanding the fairness, or lack therein, of CNN’s recent piece entitled “Death Grip: Inside Pro Wrestling,” perhaps the best example of how CNN misrepresents and unfairly presents their biased, if not illegal, point of view is the comparison of WWE’s unedited video above to CNN’s edited version. CNN’s depiction of John Cena as it relates to steroids is not only professionally and morally wrong, but damaging to his character.
This next comment comes from Kevin Eck, Baltimore Sun, November 12, 2007
“I don’t see how a respected news organization such as CNN – or any responsible journalist, for that matter – could omit Cena’s initial response to the question, which was a clear and direct denial to having ever taken steroids.”
Watch the following videos and see for yourself the audacity that CNN presented.

Citizens On Patrol = COP

This idea is something that I can see myself pushing here in Toledo area. Our police force is a bit slim so this extra help would definitely help keep our neighborhoods safe from those who like to express their "freedom" to speed and potentially kill someone. I support this action as much if not more then the red light camera system that catches red light runners. Both types of ways of catching law breakers are ok with me.

A different look at it...

DeLAND, Fla. -- A Volusia County nursing home resident who was taken to a hospital on Wednesday for respiratory problems had maggots in one of his eyes, an infected breathing tube, a partially inserted catheter and bed sores, according to authorities.
After reading this story I was quickly outraged but then I did some further research and I found that maggots although disgusting they actually have an important job. Maggots are the world's smallest surgeons. In fact they are better than surgeons - they are much cheaper and work 24 hours a day. University of Manchester Professor has been known to use maggots to treat diabetic foot ulcers of patients for quite some time now. I'm pretty sure that the patient in the nursing care center didn't have an ulcer on his foot because the maggot was found in his eye. I just hope that this is an isolated incident and not something that will be popping up throughout the US.

New filmaking tactics...

Based on the Old English epic poem, the warrior Beowulf battles Grendel the monster, who is terrorizing towns. It's one of the oldest tales in the English language. Could it also represent the future of filmmaking? The epic poem Beowulf, more than 1,000 years old and long the bane of high school literature students, has been re-created in all its muscles-vs.-monsters glory in a $150 million movie that amounts to an artistic and commercial experiment in film technology.
This movie looks to be a great hit, but this was not the only movie done that brought in high graphics to the big screen. The other movie that I'm talking about is Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. This movie was a really well done piece, when I first watched it I had a little trouble wtching it and thinking it was all generated by graphics and no actors well as far as visible. Here's a quick summary of the movie that was released in 2001.
In the year 2065, the next great assault against an invading race of phantom-like aliens is about to be launched. Dr. Aki Ross, a brilliant young scientist, races to find the invaders' secrets, not only to save the planet, but herself as well after her body is infected by alien particles. She teams up with the prestigious Deep Eyes military squadron, led by her old friend Grey Edwards. But as Aki, her mentor Dr. Sid, and Grey work toward a peaceful end, the scheming General Hein devises a plot to eradicate the aliens in one swift, destructive blow...even if it destroys the Earth right along with them.

Get your CityPass...

I need to get the word out right now because my oldest sister is planning on going to New York and she has an idea of what places to go and visit but I definitely don't think she is aware of the New York CityPass. With this bad boy you can visit the best of the best Museums a trip to the top of the Empire State building even a trip on the water to view the ever popular and eye catching New York Skyline on a tour around Manhattan. I can image the look on her face when I tell her that she will save a lot of money by getting the CityPass. My three nieces will love the Museum of Modern Art, the three of them have this flare for art and all artistic forms. Well if you're in the neighborhood and would love to see the many sites New York has to offer then please get yourself the CityPass today and have fun. Now I must get a hold of my sister before she leaves.

Veteran Ben Israel...

Veteran Ben Israel
About 44,000 to 64,000 veterans are classified as "chronically homeless" -- homeless for long periods or repeatedly.
Other veterans -- nearly 468,000 -- are experiencing "severe housing cost burden," or paying more than half their income for housing, thereby putting them at a high risk for homelessness.
This past weekend my wife and I volunteered at the Annual Tent City here in downtown Toledo, OH. She and I helped serve many of those very same vets as well as non-vets. The sight of seeing that many homeless individuals brought out a lot of volunteers as well as many organized groups to help out. We intend on donating time, energy and money to help those who need the extra leverage to get back on their feet. Watching the video I can hear it in Mr. Israel's voice that he has experienced one too many rough nights. If you are currently helping those who are in need of help I would like to say Thank You, if you have been thinking about it but haven't found the time to do so please try to make the time, you'll see the difference your help brings to their eyes and hearts.

Stephen King...

Many of you know who he is and what he does but how may of you have read his books and watched his movies? I have honestly read most of his books but I can assure you that I've seen all of his movies. The one movie that stands out the most is IT. This movie gave me a whole new respect for the clown and the clown world. Although know I can watch it over and over again without a single problem but when I was younger it bothered me to know that a creature had used a clown cover up to attack children. I spent every circus and parade that came to town at home because I knew that as long as I stayed home I wouldn't be confronted by a clown. Now I hear that the master has come up with another great hit. The Mist by Stephen King looks like another movie that will hit popular status really quick. I can't wait until the 21st to arrive so that I can go with my wife to the theater and enjoy a night out with Stephen. As for all of you who ar currently not into Stephen King books and movies I want to encourage you that he is a legend and his work will always be here, so take your time but eventually you will watch a King flick sooner or later.

My new hangout...

I was introduced to this site today by a friend of mine. He informed me that this site not only allows you to upload video but it also allows you to edit your videos, you can even mix them together and create a long video all together. The video you see below is one that I created today and I had a lot of fun creating it and editing it this afternoon. I invite you all to try this site out and upload some of your favorite videos and save them in separate folders so that it won't confuse you when exporting or editing them. The site I'm talking about is Motionbox. Check them out today.

Something Special...

My wife has been hinting on a new blender for about two weeks now. I do have a history of buying her inexpensive appliances and of course as the old cliche goes "You get what you pay for." Hopefully with this new Eclectrics® Mixer my wife can forgive me for buying her such crappy appliances in the past. I have done research and found that the Hamilton Beach® Mixer rises above the rest of the competition. Maybe my mom would want one of these Hamilton Beach® Stand Mixer as well, but in reality my sister will probably end up "borrowing" it and it would never see my mom's kitchen ever again.

Another Lose but we're coming forward...

NBA: L.A. Clippers 97, Chicago 91
CHICAGO (UPI) -- Cuttino Mobley scored 33 points Tuesday as the Los Angeles Clippers remained unblemished and kept the Chicago Bulls winless with a 97-91 victory.

Corey Maggette added 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Chris Kaman added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers, who improved to 4-0 on the season.

For Chicago, Luol Deng scored 22 points with eight rebounds. Kirk Hinrich added 18 points and Joe Smith 17.

Chicago dropped to 0-4. The Bulls got off to an 0-8 start in the 2004-05 season, but wound up 47-35.

I remember that season all too well, the team was a bit strong but the heart of the franchise was still wounded due to them deciding to break up the team because they saw it as unfair to the rest of the league. I'm sorry if your club just won SIX titles in ten years you have to a complete moron to stop that colossal run, so I guess what I'm saying is that the folks running the organization were complete morons for agreeing and executing such a stupid decision. Now the Bulls are on track in getting themselves a kick butt team so let's hope that the powers that be that made that idiotic decision before aren't employed so that history doesn't repeat itself.

Joe and his frisbee...

Yesterday I spent a good hour and a half with my daughter Emily and her boyfriend Joe at one of Joe's Frisbee Tournaments. I did not know at first what this sport entailed but after watching him and his teammates take control of the game I quickly understood how the sport worked. It began at a slow pace because it was 9:00am in the morning so they haven't really had a chance to warm up just yet., but by the time they reached 4 points they had things rolling pretty smooth. The following paragraph(s) will introduce how the game is played.
How to Play

The game is played with two teams of seven players, who throw the disc from teammate to teammate until a player catches it in the opposing team’s end zone to score a point. Games are played to 15 points and usually keep players moving for an hour and a half.

Players must stop running when they catch the disc and they can take a maximum of 10 seconds to decide which teammate can successfully catch the disc and carry the play toward the end zone.

Ultimate Frisbee combines the continuous play of soccer with the rapid direction changes of basketball and the aerial passes of football. The big difference is that ultimate Frisbee is a noncontact sport. Participating is easy and all you need is workout clothing, a pair of good running shoes or cross-trainers, and of course, a Frisbee.

If you would like added details on the complete package of this extreme sport then please visit the following site to get a true understanding.
This is an update to the event that took place on Sunday... Joe and his team won all of their tournament games, so a special congrats goes out to the team for achieving those wins in a strong and convincing manner. Good job you guys.

Preparing for the future...

Tutoring is a task that not everyone can accomplish and understand. Math Tutors are available among other types of tutors at the many Score Learning Centers in your area. I have always told my kids that a great understanding of the mathematical world is a winning skill especially if you're trying to move ahead into the world of engineering or into software development. Score Learning Centers can help you and your children achieve the goals that aren't that hard to reach.

Edurama...

Yesterday I spent some time with my wife walking through and reading the many educational setups at Bowsher High School. The event was called Edurama, their main focus was to unite many learning facilities and groups to unite together in one area and display what their courses involved and what people can do to join. It was very well presented and it was received with open eyes as well as open minds.

Saturday Photo Hunt - Classic

This truck although not a classic yet like the entry that tnchick submitted but I hope that it becomes one as the years go on. I have a story of this truck to tell future generations just like all of those who have set their eyes upon it who attended the ceremony. This truck was part of history during the unveiling of the new bridge here in Toledo, Ohio an I intend on remembering it as long as life and god allow me to.

Confused Democrats...

Please watch the video and please do not throw anything at it because it will ruin your screen and the Dems will still be confused. After I watched it I can only laugh at the outcome of what was once a true and blue front to what they have become which is considered to be low, shallow and cowardly. We are there now, what we need to do is stay focused finish the job and make sure that they are a country of one as well as a country of many.

The Right Thing.

iFLOOR, America's largest online flooring retailer, today announced a $1,000,000 limited warranty designed to protect its customers from predatory manufacturer policies that exclude warranty coverage from online purchases.

The policy, which goes into effect immediately, offers up to one million dollars of coverage in the event that a customer's warranty claim is denied specifically because they made their purchase online. It is complimentary for every iFLOOR customer, and protects the buyer under the same terms as the original product warranty.

iFLOOR, Inc. CEO, Steve Simonson, came up with the program to combat "scare tactics" used by manufacturers of hardwood floors and laminate flooring. "Their idea is to discourage you from buying at a discount!" wrote Simonson in his blog "It's About Flooring". "This is not right! You deserve to save money! So we're going to take care of this problem once and for all."

And it would appear that federal law is on his side. Section 108 of the 1975 Magnuson-Moss Act, states that, "In general, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty."

Under iFLOOR's new warranty, a key provision allows for iFLOOR to "seek justice" on behalf of the customer in the event of legal action. According to Simonson, "I'm putting iFLOOR's money where my mouth is."

I want to thank Mr. Simonson at iFLOOR for taking the forward step and implementing this new program. My step-father has bought flooring material online before with the assumption that it carried a warranty but when a few of his pieces were a bit discolored and some were damaged he found out that his so called warranty didn't really exist and that he had to visit a local merchant to get what he needed. This program is a definite plus for those who love to buy online.
Thank You.
